News-Alcoa’s Portland aluminum smelter cut production to 75 percent of capacity

On March 15, Alcoa Australia announced that production at its Portland smelter in Victoria would be cut to 75% of its 358,000 Tpy capacity due to instability and production challenges.

Alcoa Australia has faced challenges this year ranging from the expansion of bauxite mining to water supplies to its plants and cuts in supplies to alumina refineries. Just a few days ago, there was a strike at the plant.
